Go Organic On A Budget - Part 3
There are countless reasons to eat organic food. It is the best choice for your health and the health of the environment. So why doesn't everyone go organic? There is a higher cost associated with organic food. It costs more to produce food naturally and that cost is passed on to the consumer. There are things that you can do to make the switch to organic less costly.
There are four basic things you can do: grow what you can, spend your food dollars wisely, make most of your food from scratch and don't waste anything. Each article in this series will address one specific change you can make in the four areas.
Grow Your Own
There is a herb that can be easily grown in most areas that packs a culinary double punch. Cilantro is commonly used in Asian, Latin and Indian cuisines. When the leafy green herb goes to seed it gives you the popular spice coriander.
Plant your cilantro seed after the ground has warmed. You want to do this about 4 weeks after the last frost. If you live in an area that never freezes, you can plant it at any time. Plant again every week or so to have a constant supply throughout the season. As the cilantro plants start to die off, they will produce seeds. Pick the seeds and store them in a cool dry place. These seeds can be used as coriander or planted the next year to grow more cilantro.
Spend Your Food Dollars Wisely
Don't buy flavored snack chips. Look for a plain organic tortilla corn chip. Did you know tortilla corn chips are whole grain? This plainer choice is better for you and costs a lot less than the fancier snack chips available.
Make Your Own
Salsa is a great, healthy dip (which goes great with plain tortilla corn chips!) if you make it yourself. It is easy to make, if you have the right tools. A food processor is definitely the best tool for this task. Just put tomatoes, onion, garlic, cilantro, jalapeño peppers and lime juice into the work bowl of the food processor and pulse until done. You'll want to cut the veggies into large chunks first and remove the pith and seeds from the jalapeño peppers. The exact amounts used are a matter of personal preference.
Don't Waste Anything
After you remove the seeds and pith from a hot pepper, do you throw it out? I don't! I save them in a container in my freezer until I can use them. The heat and flavor is easily extracted through boiling. Here are a few examples of how I use them:
I make White Chicken Chili a lot. You can find many recipes for this online and they all use chicken stock. Simmer the chicken stock with the hot pepper "waste" for 30 minutes then strain. When you use this now spicy chicken stock, you can omit the hot peppers in the recipe. That saves you money!
Sometimes I like my beef pot roast to have a little kick to it. I usually braise brisket in a 50/50 mix of tomato sauce and beef stock (with a splash of red wine.) Simmering the beef stock with the hot pepper "waste" (then straining before use) gives the finished roast a nice warm note to it.
I know this one sounds strange, but I add a couple of hot pepper seeds to the mix when I mull apple cider. I don't use enough to give a pepper taste to the cider, but the little bit of culinary warmth they provide is perfect on a cold winter day.

What does organic mean anyway?

I and many people who live organic find this warning to be insulting because we understand that many substances deemed as natural sold on selves ' are not dangerous in any way and we aren't going to go out and randomly cook up unknown substances in out kitchens. That is very much not the case. People need to understand that in as well as many organic lovers don't just buy things without researching it first.
What else can one buy that is organic outside of produce?
Meat, milk, pasta, rice, cheese, spices, juices, chocolate, wine, bread, potato chips, soda, skin care, clothing, pet food, baby food, canned soup, tampons, sanitary napkins, vitamin, supplements, shampoos, cooking oils, condiments, cake mix, chocolate brownie mix, sugar, honey, makeup, cleaning products, and the list goes on and on and on. Going organic doesn't mean you will end up living drastically different from everyone else.

This pretty much goes across the board from food two skincare. 100% organic is the jackpot, things labeled as organic with the USDA seal are 95% organic, and anything else that claims to be organic, but doesn't have the seal is made with organic ingredients but not necessarily free of synthetic ingredients.

I can't see why any organic farmers would cheat the system because it is certainly too much work on their behalf to become legally certified organic and maintain that status. With everything there is always a wolf in sheep clothing, but for the most part organic farmers don't have a choice but to be legit because the '' man from the health department '' makes a visit to them as well.

Also organic products have high standards to meet and the costs usually deal with having things managed properly. With the easy and ready availability of processed foods are organic eating way of life, unfortunately, is not as wide spread as they could be. Even those of us who do not want our bodies with pesticides and chemical toxins realize that a fast food meal from our favorite drive-in or takeaway is sometimes easier than going to the trouble of preparing our own organic cooked meals.
I must admit that I sometimes even go to the lengths of the warm up a TV dinner, when I am too tired to even lift a finger to call pizza joint for a meal, there must be better than a first frozen and then nuked meal eaten in solitary confinement in front of the TV.
This is actually why I turned to organic eating habits to begin with to get out of the Groove, my life had fallen in. it took some doing, and I fell from the organic dining railroad car many times, but perseverance finally won and I was out of my fast food junkie and TV dinner rut and onto the benefits of organic dining.
Riddle is, however, that sometimes I am just too tired to deal with cooking a meal for myself and it is when I go to McDonalds or TV dinners. In order to combat the seductive quality of these fast paced lifestyle ruts, I even went so far as to find and buy organic TV dinners, but common sense finally set on one, and I switched back to stocking my freezer with non-organic TV dinners.
Why? Simply for the reason that the treatment has gone through these foods, along with the freezing process, and then the nuking, renders it useless any type of goodness that may exist in the food. So why pay more for what turns out to be essentially the same item? It was my theory anyway.
If you decide to pursue an organic eating disorders during therapy, however, you will find that your life just was healthier and more complicated at the same time. It was healthier, because you are the eradication of pesticides and other toxins from your body, and it became more difficult, because you now have a larger monthly campaign check fees, and you need to search solely by organic food!
However, the benefits far outweigh the disadvantages, and you will most certainly be glad later that you went to the trouble to change your eating habits to organic eating habits. I hope this article was very useful and thanks for reading.

I assumed they were over priced and over hyped as most things. Then I tried a couple of organic fruits and vegetables, I was amazed! The exotically tasted delicious!
Everyone has heard the organic & gluten free foods are better and healthier for you, but many still do not believe that it deserves extra costs. It is true that organic food is a bit more expensive than not organic, but the benefits of this type of food brings to our body far outweigh the small additional cost, we must pay out of our wallets. Easy ´ s set aside for the moment the powerful effects and wonderful benefits that organic food has. Discover the secrets of traditional Venetian Cookies with organic food baking recipes
From the enchanting Venetian Lagoon to the Adriatic Sea in Italy, when Venice was the Centre of trade with the countries of Asia from the 13th to 19th centuries, organic baking traditions was born, is still practiced today by housewives and pastry chef. Explorers and sailors performed foodstuffs on board the merchant and war galleons that would survive the long voyages in perilous seas. Among these was sweet treats, simple to do that in the name and taste, reflecting their Venetian origins. Not to mention that the only existing land use in these days, created the organic food; no pesticides or additives used in foods other than mother earth herself.
The Queen of these and the most famous, is ecologically cookie named "Biscotti Baicoli". Created in the 1700 's, the word "baicoli" Venetian dialect for sea bass. Their long, oval, thin figure is actually very similar to the small Seabass that inhabit the lagoon. At that time, the bakers supplied them to coffee shops, or they were served to House guests together with zabaglione cream, hot chocolate or tea. Still served other them with a sweet desert wine, Venetian Doge Moscato dei Doge.
They are considered today a delicate, light, but flavorful organic cookie to be enjoyed by all. Actually know almost every child in Venice today poem in Venetian dialect which brags in Baicoli, and its Venetian origins goodness.
Sit Burano, Fisherman's Island, famous for the rows of beautifully colored houses in the lagoon. Come the organic cookie "Bussola Buranello", which translated, means compass of Burano from this very small island. Here also marine traditions date back centuries. Baked in a figure outlining a circle or a step backwards "s", this cookie was a typical Easter treat, kneaded at home by the women of Burano, and then brought to baker's for baking. On days of celebration, it was dipped in Holy wine "vin santo" or in local whites. Packaged, they were placed in the middle of the clothes drawers to smell them with the delicious aroma characteristic of this cookie.
Still today it is regarded as a genuine and nutritional organic cookie, it enjoyed in the same way, or served to children.
Both organic cookies are easy to prepare, with simple organic food ingredients. Recipes follow:
Biscotti Baicoli
Organic food ingredients: 1 ¾ cups flour, ¼ cup melted butter (unsalted), ¼ Cup of sugar 1 small glass of milk, half grams yeast
Dissolve the yeast in a small amount of weak milk in a glass, and then mix it together with ¼ Cup of flour. Form a ball and leave it to the other, covered by a cloth, in a warm place until it doubles the volume (approx. 30 min.).
Mix together remaining ingredients, starting with flour and sugar, and then it melted butter, and finally, weak milk. (You can also add a bit of freshy pressed orange juice for more flavor) Add superscript the dough and knead all together.
Let the dough in mixing bowl and place the bowl in a larger bowl of boiling hot water in the oven (turned off), for at least one hour.
Divide the dough into about 6 long, oval shapes, each approximately 3 cm in width. Cook in oven for about 10 minutes at 300 °, and then increase the temperature to 430 ° until fully cooked (about 1 hour). Remove from oven and let cool completely. Then thinly slice 6 oval shapes in organic cookies, and then plug them back in the oven to toast for about 20 minutes at 120 ° to 175 °.
Dipped in hot tea, coffee or hot chocolate. Or serve with zabaglione cream or a sweet desert wine.
Bussola Buranello
Organic food ingredients: 6 egg yolks, 1 cup butter, softened at room temperature, 1 cup sugar 2 cups flour, a hyphen extract (choosed between, vanilla, lemon or Aniseed, island tradition), a dash of salt.
On a kitchen workspace create form a volcano shape with flour, and in the center of a crater, where you add the softened butter (not melted).
In a bowl, lightly beat eggs with sugar. Then add this to the flour mixture and knead quickly/butter/mix with your hands.
Take the dough and create the desired cookie shapes (sketch a circle or backwards "s") and cook in the oven at 350 degrees until done.
Modern versions add dark chocolate chips, raisins, or substitute a little of the white flour with coconut flour.

The plan
Once you have decided on a concept or theme party, something around which to organize the details of your party, your next job is to make a plan and write it down in detail.
Decide how many visitors you have and that they will be. Think of everything from food restrictions or allergies where everyone will sit. plan your menu. What will you serve? Will be how many courses? You will cook everything yourself, you'll buy dessert in the local bakery, pot-luck?
Plan your invitations, menus and party favors based on their concept or theme. Depending on how complex they are, you may need to work with them at least a week ahead of time. At least, plan to have menus and favors ready to go ahead of two days. Course invitations have already been prepared and sent.
Choose your music based on their concept or theme. Make a complete list on your ipod or copying it to a couple of CD so you won't have to think about for the rest of the night.
Make grocery lists two, one for items that can be acquired more than three days ahead of time and a cool items that need to be purchased within a day or two of the party.
Create a detailed plan of attack-what are you going to do and when-and post on your refrigerator. Prepare a list to be done ahead of time, for the morning of the party, to the noon and a list of things that need to be done immediately before and after the guests arrive. In the middle of the chat with friends, is entirely too easy to forget to put the rice in 30 minutes before dinner. So when you are preparing to serve as the main dish, you realize that you have to extend the cocktail hour for 30 minutes, and your roast chicken with care must now be reheated.
Plan your configuration table, including: tablecloth, napkins, china, glasses, cutlery, centerpiece, candles, everything. Try some ideas a week or so ahead of time. I always think that setting the table takes longer than I think, because keep trying different combinations to get the effect I'm looking for. Make sure you know exactly which dishes are used for each course, on the basis that would detonate the food to their best advantage. (Remember, everything doesn't have to match).
While you're at it, plan how you garnish each plate, write it down and add the items to your shopping list now. Don't forget to also plan what pieces to serve you will need, including serving utensils.
Take every single item out two days ahead of time and make sure it is shining clean and ready to go. You do not want to take your cocktail glasses when you are ready to serve, only to discover that they are sunny and you've got to give them a quick wash while looking for guests in.
Do it ahead of time
One of the most important lessons that leaned watch entertain my mother is doing everything you can to the front as possible. Remember that everything will take longer than you think. And, although you may be able to get up early and make 10:0 preparation, you will really feel like going to his own party after all that?
The time-consuming details, such as planning, invitations, menus, party favors and music should be made at least several days ahead. Preparations for the feast is in full swing, starting on the day before the party, and if you leave these details until then, they become more of a chore than a nice part of your party.
After starting the final preparations, everything that can be done on the previous day should be done on the previous day. Shop for groceries, define your table, get their pieces serving, chill the wine, prepare any food that can be prepared a day ahead. Unless you have to do in the real day of the party, the better. Then, on the day of the party, prepare everything as earlier in the day that it can be prepared.
Organizing in this way can seem daunting at first but once you have done this once or twice becomes almost second nature. And it makes much difference, allowing you to breeze through his party, confident and serene, enjoying yourself and be a more lively and charming host. Your guests will know how you can do it. Cooking-preparing to cook with your kids
Tasks
Children like to be creative. They like to feel a sense of accomplishment. Delegate tasks detailed for each child before starting the cooking process so that every one knows what they are responsible. This causes the flow of the cooking process without problems.
If the child is old enough, don't be tempted to criticise or assume. Give gentle reminders or instructions to help them continue learning.
Organize
Just as you would organize yourself before you cook, you will want to do the same thing with their children. Being organized will help make cooking fun and memorable experience. In addition, the kitchen will be less confusing and easier cleaning.
Patience
Cooking with your children can lead to frustration, but remember to be patient. This is a learning process that can take time to develop.

Even kids can get involved with playing out the plates when they are done eating. I f you do this when you crock pot cooking, then you have only one dish for washing, the pot!
This need to prepare in time, but offers you a real break on a daily basis. We do this about five or six times per year. We cook for an entire month once. Everything goes in the freezer. When you have finished, there are 30 dinners in the freezer. Takes two days to get it all done, but for a month, dinner is on the table about 20 minutes after you get home. If a month seems overwhelming, start with making meals for a week or two. Every night then has easy recipes for dinner!
